Seguir Cantando (Keep Singing) at Museum of Contemporary Art Denver

Ever wanted to get lost on a sea of fluffy, ethereal tulle?

A visit to Museum of Contemporary Art Denver is just what you need!

Well, for just a little longer, that is.

Through July 5th 2026, this exquisite exhibition "Seguir Cantando (Keep Singing)" by Colorado based multi disciplinary artist Ana Maria Hernando is on display on the second floor of MCA Denver.

There's less than a week to go check it out, and it's definitely worth seeing in person.

Let's take a look at what you can expect to see...

Now, I mentioned above that "Seguir Cantando (Keep Singing)" is located on the second floor of MCA Denver, but part of it is actually visible from the first floor, right near the entrance. Layers of neon green, yellow and white tulle cascade over multiple floors. Or, at least, that's how it appears from the ground floor. Upon reaching the piece on the second floor, I discovered that it's actually two pieces, but the clever placement makes for an optical illusion that  appears as continuous fabric when viewed from below.

Upstairs, the first room of the exhibition features three towering sculptures made of tulle and felt. The utilitarian feel of the felt is in stark contrast to the delicate tulle that tops the sculptures in layers that resemble a pom pom. On the end wall, a floral mandala in pink, white and green fabrics graces the wall.

The hallways of the second floor are lined with delicate papercut mandalas and painted silk panels. In the corner by the window facing over the street, a large tulle sculpture reminiscent of a powder puff fills the space. I must admit, part of me desperate wanted to dive into the fluffy, tulle layers, but we don't touch art in galleries no matter how enticing it looks!

If you thought that last tulle piece was enticing, wait until you enter the next room! Here, the centerpiece of the exhibition fills the entire space. Giant waterfalls of pink tulle cascade down the walls and spill across the floor in an exquisite tumbled mess. The calmness of the tulle as it falls down the wall, contrasts with the mass of tulle at the bottom, just like an actual waterfall with white water at the bottom.

One last tulle sculpture rounds out the exhibition. This one features contrasting black and white tulle with knotted pieces and flowing layers that tumble to the ground in a manner similar to the pink sculptures. This one reminds me of a Victorian mourning dress.

While "Seguir Cantando (Keep Singing)" was definitely the highlight and the reason for my visit, there's plenty more to see and do at MCA Denver.  The roof deck features architectural gardens, views over the neighborhood, and the MCA Cafe and Bar. I stopped by the cafe for a coffee break and was delighted to see yet more art on display. This permanent exhibition features a collection of ceramic plants by Kim Dickey. Each sculpture is placed on a mirrored surface, creating stunning reflections. The coffee is pretty good too!

The third floor of MCA Denver features exhibitions by local teens, and the ground floor is home to temporary exhibitions. The current exhibitions, "The Deluge" by Bethany Collins and "Becoming Motherland" by Sammy Seung-Min Lee both end on July 5th, along with "Seguir Cantando (Keep Singing)"

The ground floor is also home to a gift shop and the Octapus Initiative. This ground breaking initiative gives Denver residents the chance to take home a piece of art created by an artist in residence, and keep it on display at home for free for 10 months. It's quite an interesting initiative, and works on a lottery basis. All of the available artworks on on display in the Octopus archives and visitors can sign up online to be included in the lottery. I've never seen anything like this in a gallery before.
