A few weekends back we braved the (unseasonable) stormy weather and headed to San Mateo for my favorite event of the year - Maker Faire!
Maker Faire is always such a fun event - even in the rain! If you've never been before, it's a showcase of the latest innovations in the STEM world with a heavy mix of creativity and imagination thrown in. Cute robots and wacky vehicles, illuminated light shows and science experiments, crafting and upcycling scrap material... there's a little bit of everything at Maker Faire.
While Maker Faire runs for the full weekend (Friday afternoon through Sunday) we were only able to make it on the Sunday. We still managed to cram in a day full of STEM based fun. Here's a look at our day...

Maker Faire 2018
This past weekend we attended Maker Faire, one of my favorite events of the year.
Have you been to a Maker Faire before? It's such a fun event. This was our 6th year in a row attending Maker Faire and it was just as fun as always. There was so much to see, do and experience with amazing displays, hands on creating and fun rides for big and small.
As always, we didn't manage to see all of Maker Faire in just one day, and while I'd love to spend two full days there to try and experience everything it does get a little overwhelming for the kids after a full day. Maybe once Mathilde is older we'll start going for the whole weekend. Side note - Mathilde has been to every Maker Faire since she was born! This was her 5th Maker Faire and she only just turned four. She wasn't even a month old the first time she attended! I wonder if she's the youngest ever attendee.
While we didn't get to see everything at Maker Faire, what we did see (and do) was a lot of fun. Let's take a look...

Maker Faire 2015
Last weekend was a super busy one for us. On Saturday Ava competed in the Berkeley Kids' Marathon (and won!) and on Sunday we headed down to San Mateo for the 10th Annual Bay Area Maker Faire.
This was out third year visiting Maker Faire and just like our previous visits we had a blast - not literally of course, although there were plenty of things there that go kaboom!
There's always so much to see and do at Maker Faire. Admittedly, we only ever see about half of the displays. It's such a huge event that you'd really need two full days to experience it all. While I'd love to see all of it, the kids are always exhausted by the end of the day. All that fun is tiring!

52 Weeks: Week 12
Week 12: Maker Faire Street Team
One of our family's all time favorite festivals is coming up in just under two months: Make Faire!
The kids and I are so excited for Maker Faire. We've been the last two years and it's just such a fun event. Two days full of robotics, crazy contraptions, technology, scientific experiments and all round fun. There's always so much to see and do for all ages. Maker Faire is fun for adults and kids alike. You can see our previous visits to Maker Faire here and here.
This year we're helping to spread the word about Maker Faire by being part of their street team. This means that we've been out and about, armed with a stack of flyers and post cards which we've been putting up in local cafes, stores, bars... If you see a Maker Faire flyer somewhere in Berkeley there's a good chance we put it there!
Here's a look at the girls out and about all over Berkeley putting up their flyers and postcards over the last few days...

Maker Faire 2014
This past weekend was a super busy one for our family. Saturday we cheered Ava on in the Berkeley Kids Triathlon and on Sunday we headed down to San Mateo for the "Greatest Show and Tell on Earth": Maker Faire!
We had been counting down the days to Maker Faire pretty much since we visited last year. Ava and Lola had an absolute blast at Maker Faire last year and we couldn't wait to take them again. And this year they had a new little maker to go with them!
