It's that time of year again... time to start celebrating the holiday season with light displays, festive events and family friendly fun!

There are so many fun ways to celebrate the upcoming holiday season here in Colorado, so today I'm sharing some of my favorites for this year. Colorado sure does know how to make the festive season feel extra special, so no matter what your interests are you're sure to find an event that's right for you!

Downtown Denver Holiday Lights

Christmas is almost here! 

Things may be looking a little different this year for many families, but one thing that remains the same is the holiday cheer in the city. There may be no holiday parade or ice skating rink this year, but the city of Denver has gone all out with the light displays just as they would any other year. 

Earlier this week Lola, Mathilde and I headed into the city to check out the light displays in Downtown. We saw parade floats, streets filled with twinkling lights, listened to a band play festive music, marveled at the light displays on Union Station, and laid down inside the Mile High Tree to watch the lights above.

10 Ways to Celebrate the Holidays in Denver

Now that the spooky season is officially over it's to start thinking about the holidays. I'm not usually one to do anything too festive before December, but with all that 2020 has thrown at us, I think we all need a little holiday magic in our lives right now. 

So, today I'm sharing some of the fun holiday events that will be happening around the Denver area. Some of these are events that we've attended in the past, while others will be new for us this year. Some of the holiday events that we've attended in the past will not be happening this year due to covid restrictions, but the events listed below are all going ahead with precautions in place. As with anything, please make sure to check event requirements before attending any of these events. Many require that you book timed tickets in advance, and masks will most likely be required for all attendees over the age of two or three. 

Our First Christmas in Colorado

I know, I know... Christmas was a couple of weeks ago now, but I have one last Christmas themed post to share and then that's it - until December!

This time I'm sharing a round up of all the holiday fun as there were quite a few smaller events that I didn't share dedicated posts about. Oh, and our Christmas card, which I never shared on here before - although you may have received one in the mail. There are majestic mountains behind the kids in this pic, but they're hidden behind thick clouds. Clouds that later that very same day brought the heavy snowfall that we experienced over Thanksgiving break. You can see just how much snow we got here. 

Let's go back to November when the holiday fun started - before Thanksgiving, for some reason!)

Denver's Mile High Tree

Just when you thought I couldn't possibly have any more holiday fun to share with you, I'm back with more! And this isn't the last of it!

Remember I mentioned that the holiday magic continues for quite some time in Colorado? Well, one of the most spectacular - and free - holiday events continues all the way through to the end of January. I'm talking about the Mile High Tree, Denver's newest holiday installation.

Standing at 110 foot tall and 39 feet in diameter, the Mile High Tree is a sight to behold. As you can probably tell from the pictures above, the Mile High Tree is not really a tree. Rather, it's a conical structure covered in thousands of twinkling lights that resembles a Christmas tree. The lights twinkle and change color in amazing patterns choreographed to music (holiday music during the the holiday season and local Colorado music throughout January).
