Halloween 2022

Halloween is over for another year.

If you're following along on Instagram you will have already seen all of our Halloween celebrations, but I wanted to share them here on the blog as well.

This year we didn't get out and about as much as I would've liked so there were no trips to see fancy jack-o'lanterns, no Halloween light displays and no meeting creepy Halloween creatures, but we still had a fun Halloween.

While we didn't make it out to any fun Halloween events or exhibitions, we did make it to our local pumpkin patch and of course we dressed up for trick or treating.

Let's take a look...

Fairy Bread Butter Board

If you've been anywhere near social media in the past month you've likely seen one of the latest crazy food trends. I'm talking about butter boards!

If you haven't been on social media and have no idea what I'd talking about, butter boards are basically a charcuterie board consisting of butter and sandwich toppings with bread on the side for scooping up all the deliciousness. I've seen all sorts of butter boards being shared with a good mix of sweet and savory options, but one thing I hadn't seen shared was the good old classic Aussie fairy bread! I mean, what could be easier than a butter board made up of nothing but butter and sprinkles?

So, today I thought I'd share just that: a fairy bread butter board!

This butter board is perfect for kids' birthday parties, picnics, afternoon snacks, breakfast... Basically any occasion that calls for fairy bread is the perfect occasion for a fairy bread butter board.

It feels a little weird calling this a recipe seeing as there are really only three ingredients and absolutely no cooking or baking involved, but I guess anything that involves mixing ingredients together to make a new food is a recipe, right?

Ok, let's get to it...

What you'll need:
Bread board/chopping block
Block of unsalted butter (softened)
Sprinkles (the round ones are best for fairy bread authenticity)
White fluffy bread (cut into triangles for fairy bread authenticity)

Step 1
Spread the softened butter across the bread board until you have a thin even layer.

Step 2
Sprinkle the sprinkles on top until the butter is completely covered.

Step 3
Serve with white bread cut into triangles and your favorite Aussie treats on the side.

Step 4
Use the white bread to scoop up the butter and sprinkles.

Step 5
Enjoy!

See... wasn't that super simple? So simple in fact that half of the steps I included aren't even really recipe steps!

Have you made a butter board before? Let me know if you give this one a try!

Our Big Summer Adventure: Fiji, Australia and a USA Road Trip

Summer break has been and gone and we’re back into the full swing of the school year. Our big Summer adventure is still on my mind though and I have a ton of fun stuff to share with you.

If you’re following along on Instagram you will likely have already seen a few of my favorite moments from our Summer break trip to Australia and Fiji. Today I’m sharing all of the fun! Well, maybe not quite all of it because we were away for an entire month. More of a highlight post with a run down of all the places we went. I’ll be sharing more in-depth posts about some of our bigger adventures in the future.

Our Summer adventure was a pretty big one with two international destinations and a Western USA roadtrip. We started with a two day drive from Colorado to Los Angeles, flew to Fiji, spent five days soaking up all the tropical island vibes before flying on to our home city of Adelaide in South Australia, took a road trip to Melbourne, road tripped back to Adelaide, spent a few weeks catching up with friends and family, flew back to Los Angeles, and then spent three days driving back to Colorado with a stop over in Las Vegas. As you can imagine, we were exhausted by the time we got home. I bet you’re tired just reading that, right?!

This post is going to be a long one, so get comfortable and prepare for the onslaught of photos! Let’s go…

Travel Gut Health with Bio-Kult

Disclaimer: I received this product for free from Moms Meet (www.momsmeet.com) to use and share my honest opinions.

You know I'm a big fan of traveling, right?

Well, there's one aspect of travel that I'm not so much a fan of. Well, maybe a few things - unpacking and doing all the washing when we get home is never fun, and sometimes the costs involved are a little eek. But that's not what I'm talking about here. I'm talking about the toll that travel takes on my gut.

Yep - I'm talking about guts!

Most of us who love travel know all about "Bali Belly" and the risks involved in drinking tap water in certain destinations, but what I'm talking about is the havoc eating out for every single meal takes on gut health. Now, I'm not going to lie - I love eating out at restaurants when we travel. It's a great way to try local cuisines, the food is generally pretty yummy, and it's certainly a nice break from having to cook dinner every night at home. But there's often a reason that restaurant food tastes so much better than the food we make at home - and that's ingredients like butter, oil and salt. If you've ever watched a tv cooking show with professional chefs you'll know that a chef's idea of "a little" oil seems rather excessive compared to what most of us use at home. Plus, of course, there are often ingredients that our stomachs simply aren’t used to when we travel to a new country. And all of the extra treats that we tend to find ourselves eating when we travel!

So, how do I avoid dreaded gut issues when on the road? Keep reading for my top tips!
