Whimsy and wonder abound at Spectra Art Space thanks to their immersive exhibition Novo Ita: Propagation.
Each Summer, Spectra Art Space blooms with color and botanical magic that must be seen to be believed. In this immersive experience, visitors step into a world like no other. A world where giant mushrooms, bubble blowing bears, mystical creatures, psychedelic artworks, miniature environments, towering flowers, glowing crystals, and so much more exist alongside verdant gardens. A world that not only exists in your wildest imagination, but also right here in Denver.

If you’ve been here a while, you’ll likely have seen me sharing my love of Spectra Art Space. It’s a wonderful gallery sharing a wealth of local art, but their immersive installations are what I live for. You can see last year’s visit to Novo Ita here, and our visits to Spectra’s Halloween themed Spookadelia here and here.
This Summer’s Novo Ita installation is just as whimsical as ever.
One of my favorite things about Novo Ita is that it’s partially located inside and partially located outside, giving it a very different feel to most other immersive installations. The inside part of the installation features lighting displays, comfy bean bags, musical instruments, and touch screens on which visitors can create their own artworks.
The outside area of the installation is made up of tiny houses, each with a different theme and different activities inside them. The largest house in the center is filled with color, mirrored artworks, plants hanging from the ceiling, and a swing that visitors can lay or sit on while taking in all the wonder. Another house features walls of crystals that light up and change color. A tiny house features miniature worlds. An open room with flowers hanging from the ceiling makes for a great place to sit and view the surrounding areas. A tiny hobbit house features comfy cushions, books and musical instruments. Electronic music, color changing art, and light displays make for a great spot to dance in another house. A greenhouse full of quirky plants and botanical specimens adds a little nature. And there’s so much more.
Outdoor displays abound too. You’ll find a bear blowing bubbles while a giant robot stands watch. A zoetrope that features whimsical underwater scenes. A mystical waterfall and whimsical creatures. Tiny fairy doors hidden in plain sight. And, of course, a whole lot of of greenery in the form of potted plants, vines growing on walls, and leafy trees that shade the area.
Back inside the gallery you’ll find a wealth of local art covering the walls. The current exhibition “Curated Cryptids” runs through September 7th. Original artworks and prints are available to purchase, as well as a large variety of goods including stickers, clothing, body products, jewelry, and so much more.
Also on display, are a couple of character costumes. These whimsical creatures are a part of Spectra’s Halloween themed Spookadelia immersive. You can see them in action here.
