Cherry Blossom Festival in San Fransico's Japantown district is on again this weekend!
Last weekend we headed into the city for an afternoon of fun at the festival - which the girls like to call the "Hello Kitty Festival" due to all of the Hello Kitty themed kids' activities.

Yesterday we headed to San Francisco's Japantown neighborhood for the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. Although, from the pictures below you may think we were actually at a Hello Kitty and Pocky festival!

Hanging Rabbit Foot Fern workshop
Last week I attended another workshop at Utsuwa Floral Design in San Francisco's Japantown.
This time the project was a Hanging Rabbit Foot Fern; a small fern, the roots and soil of which are wrapped in a moss ball.
This project was relatively quick and simple. After removing the fern from its pot a wire post is poked through the middle. This forms the hanger for the completed project. Moss is then placed on the bottom to hold in moisture. Sheet moss is then wrapped around the roots and soil, covering it all and shaped to form a ball.

Air Plant Workshop
Last week I got back into my floristry work. Well, kind of...
As we don't have any outdoor space of our own in which to grow a garden, I've been looking for ways to bring nature inside. Potted orchids, terrariums and air plants (Tillandsia) are slowly starting to fill our apartment with green. Last Friday evening I attended a “Tillandsia (Air Plant) Mounted on Driftwood" workshop at Utsuwa Floral Design in San Francisco's Japantown.
I'd been trying to get into one of the workshops at Utsuwa for months but they sell out rather fast. As soon as I heard about this particular workshop I signed up straight away. Past workshop projects have also included terrariums and bonsai.
