Honey Crackles Recipe

For Mathilde's recent bee themed birthday party I made honey crackles; a classic Australian treat found at kids' birthday parties all over the country. The honey crackles fit in perfectly with the bee theme and they reminded me of my own childhood. They're one of those party treats that I loved as a kid but had kind of forgotten about seeing as they're not common here in the US.

I had actually never made honey crackles myself before, or at least not as an adult, but they're super easy to make and they're delicious so I thought I'd share the recipe with you today.

So just what is a honey crackle, I hear you ask. Think of a rice krispies treat, but instead of rice krispies and marshmallow they're made with corn flakes and honey. Instead of being made in a flat shape they're baked in cupcake liners. Fun aside, cupcake liners are known pattypans in Australia and I actually didn't know that the word wasn't used here in the US until I looked it up to check for this post and found that a "pattypan" in the US is apparently a type of small squash. You learn something new every day!

Another thing that I learned, is that in some parts of Australia people call honey crackles "honey joys". I've never heard that name before, but apparently it's a thing. It's wrong, but it's a thing. Ha!

Anyway... onto the recipe!

LOVE CORN

Disclaimer: I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com) and compensation was provided. All images and opinions are my own.

Snacks, snack, snacks...

They're one of the most important thing in a kid's day, right? Whether we're out exploring, playing in the backyard, watching tv, heading home from swim class, or doing school work, snacks are always a must. A good snack can turn a grumpy, hungry kid into a happy kid in a matter of moments. Who am I kidding, a good snack can do that for us grown ups too!

We've always got lots of snacks in the pantry at home. I keep a snack bag filled with goodies in the car for when we're out an about, and I'm always guaranteed to find at least one granola bar in the bottom of my handbag at any given time. I'm a snack master! But even with my snack providing prowess, it can be easy to fall into a snack rut. Granola bars and crackers can start to get a little boring, so I'm always on the look out for new and tasty snacks to throw in the mix.

My favorite types of snacks are ones that appeal to both kids and adults, so when I came across LOVE CORN premium crunchy corn snacks I knew that I was onto a winner! These tasty little morsels are packed full of flavor and crunch, and with their resealable bags they're the perfect snack for adventures - even if our adventures are just in the backyard!

LOVE CORN comes in four delicious flavors including Sea Salt, BBQ, Salt & Vinegar, and Habanero. That last one is a little spicy for my younger kids, but a hit with those of us in the family who like a little heat. The crunch and flavor appeals to the kids, and I love that they're made from simple plant based ingredients. They're gluten and sugar free, vegan friendly, kosher, and non-GMO. Tasty and a healthy alternative to a lot of other snacks on the market! Plus, the packaging is pretty cute!

Whether you're looking for the perfect lunch box snack or something to eat while hanging out in a hammock on a chilly day, make sure to give LOVE CORN a try. You can purchase LOVE CORN online or in store at Whole Foods, Target, Sprouts, Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, Wegmans, ShopRite and more. To find a retailer near you visit lovecorn.com/pages/find-store

Epic Snacks for Epic Play

Disclaimer: This post is sponsored by Goldfish® but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

My karate kids are growing up!

A few weeks back it was belt test day for all three of my girls and they all passed. Blue belts for both Ava and Lola, and a white belt with two black stripes for my littlest ninja Mathilde.

The girls worked so hard preparing for their belt test. They practiced their kata moves and their sparring skills every week at karate class in the park until they had perfected them.

All that karate work makes for hungry kids and hungry kids need tasty snacks that pack a punch like a blue belt!

Goldfish crackers have been one of the kids' favorite go to snacks for such a long time, so we were super excited when we discovered the new Goldfish Epic Crunch Nacho flavor. A classic favorite with a new twist for my growing girls. The perfect after karate class snack.

Talk about packing a punch! These tasty little morsels sure do live up to their name. The zesty nacho cheese flavor was a big hit with the kids (and grown ups!) and the extra tortilla crunch made for epic snacking fun.

Goldfish Epic Crunch are baked with whole grains and contain no artificial flavor or preservatives. They're always baked, never fried.

The big, bold flavor of Goldfish Epic Crunch comes in a big, bold new size. With a flavor and crunch that appeals to bigger kids, these tasty snacks come in a bigger size for more flavor and crunch in every bite.

A knock out hit with my karate kids!

Looks like we've found our new go to snack for lunch boxes, road tripping and sharing with friends after karate class!

Smile Worthy Back to School Moments with Goldfish

Can you believe it? We're about half way through the long Summer break now. How did that happen?

While the kids are blissfully unaware that their laid back Summer adventures will be done in just over a month, I, like many parents, am thinking about back to school. There's so much to prepare before the kids go back to school, but for me the most important thing is making sure that it's a smile worthy time for the kids.

After such a long break from the structure of the school year, I find it important to ease the kids back into their schedules. So rather than having the Summer fun come to an abrupt halt once school starts back up again, I'm thinking ahead and planning small after school adventures to take together. Hikes in local parks, swims at the lake, visiting fun playgrounds... We're lucky here in the Bay Area that there are so many great places to visit. The weather here in early Fall is usually our warmest which is perfect for afternoon adventures.

Gerber Lil' Beanies

Summer vacation may mean a break from school for my big girls, but it doesn't mean a break from their regular activities which, for the most part, are running right through the Summer just as they do through the school year. This means that not only are we out and about a lot doing fun Summer Vacation type stuff, but we're also out a lot at Ava and Lola's (twice weekly) karate and swimming classes. While Ava and Lola practice their swim strokes or their sparring techniques, Mathilde and I get a little one on one time - much of which is spent eating!

When you spend a lot of time out and about with a toddler there a lot of things that you really need to have on hand with you. A change of clothes, spare underpants or diapers, baby wipes, small toys or activities to keep them occupied... But as any parent knows, the most important thing to have on hand when out and about with toddlers is snacks! A hungry toddler is not a happy toddler, and we all want happy toddlers, right?

Fresh Snacking with Sprogs Fresh Rice Scooters

Disclaimer: This post is brought to you by Sprogs Fresh. All opinions are my own.

"Mum, I'm hungry. I need a snack. What can I have to eat?"

Sound familiar? I swear this is the most common thing coming out of my kids' mouths this Summer. They seem to be constantly after snacks.

Like most mums, I'm always on the look out for new ideas when it comes to tasty and healthy snacks for the family. I mean, there are only so many granola bars you can eat, right? We're on the go a lot over the Summer break so we need snacks that can go with us. Something that won't melt into a puddle of goo in the "snack bag" that lives in the bottom of the stroller. Something that will fill the kids up enough that they won't be asking for another snack again straight away - I'm looking at you teeny, tiny box of raisins. Something with flavors that I can enjoy too. I need snacks too. Tasty snacks. Something that doesn't make a mess should the kids really feel the need to eat on BART. I didn't say that. We don't eat on BART. I promise. Ok, my fingers might be crossed behind my back.

In my search for tasty, transportable and healthy snacks I recently came across Rice Scooters by local Bay Area company Sprogs Fresh. Rice Scooters are fresh rice snacks in a range of delicious flavors. Think a modern take on o-nigiri rice balls.
