Catrinas en mi Ciudad at Denver Performing Arts Complex

Denver Performing Arts Complex is looking pretty colorful right now with a stunning exhibition celebrating the Mexican holiday Día de Muertos, aka Day of the Dead.

Catrinas en mi Ciudad is an outdoor exhibition held throughout the complex and features larger than life Catrinas (the tall female skeletons) and Calaveras (the highly decorated skulls) created by costume and set designer Ricardo Soltero and Cooperativa Jaen Cartoneria from Mexico City.

I love all of the color and the cultural aspects of the Catrinas and Calaveras, and especially enjoy the contrast of these pieces in such a modern, urban environment. Each pieces shines and adds a touch of wonder and delight to the complex.

The best part of this exhibition? It’s free!

Yesterday we visited Denver Art Museum to check out the exhibition Biophilia: Nature Reimagined. I'd been seeing it pop up on Instagram for a few months now and kept planning to go see it over Summer Break with the kids. Well, here we are, just one week out from school starting and we finally made it. 

More importantly though, there are only a few more days left to see this stunning exhibition before it closes for good. If, like me, you've been procrastinating about visiting, you're running out of time.

Immersive Art in Denver

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of immersive art. If you've been here a while, or if you follow along on Instagram, you're sure to have seen a lot of immersive art featured in my posts.

 
We're lucky here in Colorado that there are quite a few permanent (or long term pop up) immersive art exhibitions. They're a great place to spend an hour or two on a cold day (or a hot day - Summers here are HOT) and they're a lot of fun. Plus you get to come home with creative photos that you can't get anywhere else.

Today I'm sharing a round up of my favorite immersive art exhibitions in and around Denver.

Selfie at Stanley

Hey Colorado friends!

If you've been here a minute, you'll know I love a good immersive museum or interactive exhibition. I'm always on the look out for fun new experiences that fit the bill and I'm excited to say that I've found a new one! 

Selfie at Stanley is a fun new pop up exhibition designed for those of us who love taking selfies - or in my case, photos of the kids! Located at the Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, Selfie at Stanley features 25 interactive photo backdrops with props a plenty. You'll find all sorts of photo opportunities here including swings, a bath tub full of "bubbles" (ball pit balls), a 60's living room full of vintage goodies, a wall of plushies, a retro hair salon, a scooter zooming down Denver's Larimer Square, angel wings, puffy clouds, and so much more.

Monster to Midnight at Distortions Monster World

Halloween is just a few sleeps away but there's still time to get your spook on at some fun venues around Denver. This past weekend the girls and I went and checked out a fun and rather spooky exhibition in the city: Monster to Midnight at Distortions Monster World!

If you're a fan of horror movies and all things creepy, then Distortions Monster World is for you! This interactive selfie museum is filled with all sorts of aliens, monsters, horror movie characters, and props all hand made by Distortions Unlimited. 

The museum is fun at any time of year, but in the lead up to Halloween things get extra spooky with the evening event Monster to Midnight.
