Louisville Historical Museum

Time for a little local love!

We’ve lived in Louisville, Colorado, for six years now, and I’ve been meaning to check out our local history museum that entire time, but it took my parents visiting from Australia this Summer to get us off our butts and visits what has been right under our noses this whole time!

If you’ve ever been to Louisville’s Main Street, you’re likely familiar with the iconic 5c Coca Cola mural on the side of an early 1900s building. They may not be serving up 5c sodas here, but what they are serving up is a whole lot of Louisville’s history!

This is the Louisville Historical Museum, and today I’m sharing it with you.

Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen

A little while back I shared my visit to Kirkland Museum here in Denver, and it got me thinking about our visit to the Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen way back in 2017.  Despite being one of my favorite places we visited in Copenhagen, I’m still yet to share it here on the blog. In fact, there’s still a lot from our Copenhagen trip that I still need to share in general, so stay tuned for a little bit of playing catch up.

I’m a huge fan of mid century modern design, and no one does it better than the Danes, so visiting a museum full of famous Danish designs was such a treat. Designmuseum Danmark features examples of some of Denmark’s most famous industrial design, including furniture, lighting, household goods, toys, graphic design, and so much more.

Let’s check it out…

Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art

Did you know that Denver has a museum dedicated to design and decorative art?

I didn't, until I recently stumbled across the Kirkland Museum. The striking yellow tiles of the building and signage for an Art Deco exhibition (one of my favorite design eras) caught my eye, and I knew I just had to check it out.

If you are a lover of fine art, decorative art, and furniture design, the Kirkland Museum is a must see.

With around 4,400 items covering a span of 150 or so years of art and design, there's a wealth of artistry on display in the Kirkland's distinctive building. I honestly didn't know what to expect before I stepped inside, but I'm happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I found myself in awe as I made my way through each salon style room; smile on my face as I took in all the detail. And there's a LOT of detail!
