Denver's Fairy Doors

Did you know that there's a fairy village hidden in Denver?

Well, it's not exactly hidden, per se, but you do need to know where to look.

Denver's South Pearl Street shopping district is home to thirty whimsical fairy doors that are sure to delight the young and young at heart.

We recently spent a few hours on South Pearl Street searching for the fairy doors and enjoying some tasty treats from local stores along the way.

Let's take a look...

My favorite things about the fairy doors on South Pearl Street is that they are all so different from one another. Before we went searching for the fairy doors I had an image in my head of what I thought they'd look like, and while some of them did fit the classic fairy door mold, most were very different. So many different materials have been used to create the fairy doors. Some look like they're straight out of a magical woodland with pebbles, moss and rustic wood, while others are fresh and modern. Some are built of industrial materials like corrugated iron and metal iron.

Some of the doors have been designed to fit in with the business on which they can be found. A fairy door made of frame pieces on a framing store, a mini fairy bar on a brewery, a miniature version of a restaurant, a fairy hair salon on hair salon, a door made of kitchen utensils alongside a cafe...

While most of the fairy doors can be found outside along the street, some are a little harder to find. You'll find yourself needing to look around corners, behind fence pillars and on verandahs. Some fairy doors are down low and some are up high. Some stand out as pops of color along a plain wall while others blend in with their surroundings. Some are even hidden in what look like mailboxes. The trickiest one, however, is located inside Stella's Coffee. A staff member will need to help you find it because it is hidden behind a frame piece on the wall!

Chautauqua Park Bears 2024

Boulder's bears are back!

Well, not the real bears - they're most likely hibernating right now - but the colorful bears that call Chautauqua Park home each Winter are back!

This Winter season fifteen colorful bear sculptures can be found dotted around Boulder's Chautauqua Park as part of the Art in the Park event. Each bear has been painted by a different artist and despite starting from the same blank canvas no two bears are alike.

Let's take a look...

Chautauqua Park Bears

Boulder's Chautauqua Park is over run with bears!

But don't worry; they're friendly bears!

Friendly, colorful bears waiting for a hug and a photo!

These fun bear statues are part of Chautauqua's annual Art in the Park event. Fifteen colorfully painted fiberglass bears can be found throughout the historic campus. They make for a fun little treasure hunt, and if you've been here a while you'll know that I'm a big fan of statue treasure hunts. In the past we've enjoyed searching for the heart statues in San Francisco, the lobster statues in Plymouth, the bison statues around Salt Lake City, and the prairie dogs right here in neighboring Superior.

Each one of these fun bears was painted by a different artist. Let's take a look at them...

Summer Staycation at Gaylord Rockies

Summer break has come to an end for us here in Colorado, but before we got back into the swing of the new school year we took one last vacation. Well, a staycation to be precise!

You may remember that we took a Staycation at the Gaylord Rockies resort in Aurora last Winter. You can see it here. It was such a great little getaway that we decided to do it again, this time visiting in Summer and making full use of the amazing outdoor pool facilities.

Gaylord Rockies is the perfect location for a Colorado staycation, or getaway if you're not local. It's located close to Denver International Airport making it a great place to spend the night before a flight, or a first destination after flying in to Denver. The resort is huge and has something on offer for everyone. The rooms are lovely, there is a wealth of cuisine on offer in the onsite restaurants (and room service), there are fun family friendly activities for the kids, there's a spa and fitness center for those wanting a little self care, the landscaping is stunning, and last but not least, there are indoor and outdoor pool areas. You know those were the biggest hit with my kids, right?
