Holiday Gifts for Travel Loving Kids

The holidays are a time that our family typically spends away on vacation (we're heading to Colorado this year) so this has had me thinking about travel related gifts for the kids. Today I'm sharing my favorite gift ideas for kids that love to travel. Most of these are items that my kids have used many times and loved. They all get my stamp of approval!

Teacher Gifts

This year Ava decided that she wanted to make a clay plant pot as a thank you gift for her school teacher. I loved the idea of her making something herself from scratch, but unfortunately we didn't have enough time. Plus it would've proven too tricky for Lola who was keen to do the same.

So instead I suggested that the girls paint ready made pots instead. They both loved this idea and couldn't wait to get started. So we headed to our local gardening store and purchased a selection of terracotta pots and cute little succulents to plant in them.

Little Bags of Honey Biscuits

Today was Ava's last day of school for the year. Roll on the start of the two week winter break!

Ava's class celebrated their last day of school before Christmas by making Christmas crafts, watching a movie and, the kids' favourite part, wearing their pyjamas all day! Not a bad day of school.

And if all that doesn't sound good enough there was just one more treat...

Ava took bags of honey biscuits to school to give out to her classmates and teacher.

Technically sweet treats like biscuits/cookies aren't actually allowed at school but we got around this by bagging the biscuits up for the kids to take home. Ah, loopholes! To make the bags of biscuits a little more festive I made cards from one of Ava's Christmas drawings and tied them on with red and white baker's twine. Ava personalised each bag of biscuits by writing a message on the back of each card. I was quite impressed that she was able to recognise each of her classmates names on the cards when handing them out. It's good to know that she is learning at school!

Merry Christmas

Colour Me In

Inspired by the Stella's Little Project contest I recently decided to print t-shirts for Ava featuring some of her  drawings.

After going through what seemed like a tonne of Ava's drawings I decided to merge a few aspects of several drawings together rather than using just one. The fairy, heart and flower in the final design below have been taken from three different drawings.

Rather than messing around with printing in full colour I decided to print simple black outlines of Ava's drawings ready for her to colour in herself with fabric crayons (Pentel Fabric Fun Pastel Dye Sticks).

I printed the t-shirt design using my amazing Print Gocco machine. I love that thing! It turns even the finest print (1mm I believe) into a template ready for silk screening onto fabric, paper etc. If I had to make the template using traditional silk screening techniques I'd still be at it. Ok, let's be honest... I'm far too lazy for that so I never would have even started!
